Joe Ejedawe (BSc., PhD, FNAPE)
Joe Ejedawe ( BSc.,PhD,FNAPE) is regarded as the "geology expert" and "knowledge holder"
for the Niger Delta, both inside and outside Shell Petroleum Development
(where he once worked), with the ability to demonstrate commercial implications.
He readily challenges existing dogmas in order to generate new opportunities and
provide good justification for actions taken.
He has managed small and large teams, including a joint Shell/Amoco/DMNG (Russia) study
team demonstrating leadership and ability to handle diversity.
Joe has demonstrated global reach through projects in Sakhalin (Russia), Gabon,
Algeria, Azerbaijan, Argentina, Paraguay, and Nigeria, and over twenty international
publications. He is results-oriented with focus on the application of know-how to drive
business need, bottom line and stakeholder satisfaction. His experience covers 39 years
of diversified activity with main focus on regional geological studies and prospectivity
analysis.
Key achievements include:
- Compilation of the first paleo-river trends in the Niger delta as a basis for
reservoir prediction in deepwater and deep onshore Niger development of depositional
model for the Niger delta
- Sequence stratigraphic analysis of the Amur Delta underpinning the Sakhalin II
bid round evaluation
- Development of temperature prediction software (LithTemp) for deep wells in the
Niger Delta
- Development of source rock maturation program (Petrogen) recently, re-evaluation
of the geology of the Niger Delta and the development of new conceptual models for
deep play evaluation, and a comprehensive ArcGIS-based Dry hole analysis of over 1400
exploration wells in the Niger Delta
- Training and mentorship of a host of students many of whom are current industry
leaders and professional geologists.
Dr Joseph Eromonsele Ejedawe (1946) graduated with BSc. Hons in Geology from the
University of Ibadan in 1969, and PhD in Petroleum Geology from the Moscow (Gubkin)
Institute of Petrochemical and Gas Industry, Russia, in 1974. He had a brief career in the
Nigerian Geological Survey as a field geologist and as a research geologist (1969-1974).
He was a founding member of Kragha and Associates Petroleum Consultants (1974-1978),

SIEP Houston, USA (2005-2007); and worked on projects in Nigeria, Gabon, Sakhalin, Algeria,
Azerbaijan, the Russian part of the Chukchi Sea, and since retirement, in Argentina and
Paraguay.
He has had various leadership positions in Shell, Nigeria,in the Netherlands and Houston
